We would like to congratulate ¡ahora sí! for being awarded the Spanish Newspaper of the year by the Texas Chapter of the Associated Press Managing Editors!

AUSTIN (March 29, 2011) -  ¡ahora sí!, Austin’s weekly Spanish-language publication has been named the Spanish Newspaper of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the Associated Press Managing Editors. The Texas APME awards were given out at the annual conference held March 26 and March 27 in Tyler, Texas. It is the first time ¡ahora sí! has received the award and only the second time to enter the competition. The Spanish weekly began publication in August 2004.

Reporter Tania Lara received two second-place and one third-place individual awards. The first was in the news category for Spanish-language newspapers and the second was in the Features category for Spanish-language newspapers.  Lara’s third-place award was in the Sports category for Spanish-language newspapers. Lara, previously won two awards from the Texas APME in 2010.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by our industry peers for our hard work. I am extremely proud of the ¡ahora sí! team and the important local news and cultural content they report to our Central Texas readers,” said George Gutierrez, publisher of ¡ahora sí!
